Vintage 1955 Pierre Levegh Photo, Le Mans 24 Hours Disaster.
This is a vintage 1955 photo of Pierre Levegh, casualy leaning on the hood of a Mercedes-Benz road car prior to the 1955 running of the 24 Heures du Mans.
Levegh's Mercedes 300 SLR would plough into the main grandstand at the start finish line after a mere 34 laps at around 18.26H local time, instantly killing Levegh (real name Pierre Bouillin) before the eyes of his wife and 82 spectators. It is widely considered to be the worst accident in motorracing history.
Images of Levegh outside his racing car are rare and this is a great opportunity to acquire a VINTAGE photo of the man.
It measures some 18 x 24 cm of 7 x 9.5 inches.
The race was won by Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb in their Jaguar D-Type (S/N XKD505) with a total of 307 laps to their name.

Vintage 1955 24 heures du Mans Mini Race Poster.

These mini posters carry two arabic gum stripes on the front so it could be attached to the inside of a (car) window.
This poster is part of the so-called "Major Illustrators" era in Le Mans posters which lasted from 1954 - 1963 and in which the cream of the crop of French motorsport illustrators such as Geo Ham, Jeudon and Beligond were hired for the design of the race posters.
The design of the 1955 poster came from world-renowned motorsport artist Geo Ham who opted for the symbolic approach. The place is the Mulsanne hump at the end of the Les Hunaudieres straight. Power, the night and the time are the key motifs in the illustration.
